Storytelling! It’s something I’ve been doing a whole lot more of the past few years. While I’ll always think of myself of a standup comic before all else it’s been really rewarding to work within a performance style that allows me to talk candidly about things I’ve experienced without constantly working to generate laughter at every turn (though, if I’m being real, pretty much all of my stories have a comedic delivery).
Anyway, after lots of work with local organizations like MassMouth and the Boston chapter of The MOTH I’m finally hitting the road for storytelling. This October I’m heading down to Jonesborough, Tennessee for the National Storytelling Festival to take part in their Story Slam!
The festival runs Friday 10/7 – Sunday 10/9 and the slam is on Saturday the 8th. I’ll be competing with a tale on the theme of “Lost & Found” and I couldn’t be happier to be spending 3 days immersed in amazing narratives, likeminded creators, and a whole mess of Tennessee style pulled pork BBQ.

It’s that time again! Your favorite local storytelling organization is nearing the end of its spectacular competitive season. That means the semifinals are right around the corner. The best tellers & stories of the year will be showcased all over the Boston / Camber-ville area as they compete for a place on the “Big Mouth-off” finals stage.
Once again I’m in the semis this year and I’d love for you to come check me out on Tuesday 3/24, 7p at Johnny D’s in Somerville MA (and maybe vote for me if you like what you hear…)
Tickets can be purchased HERE, watch out they’re going fast.

I’m a little late in updating about it here, but the weekend before Halloween I set a goal for myself: Win 2 story slams in 2 nights. I’m very happy to say that I was able to do it, so yeah, not a bad 48 hours. I owe many thanks to Massmouth for putting on the excellent “Near Death” slam at Sanctuary on Sunday and also to The Moth for packing the house at OBERON last night as we heard tales of “Lost & Found”. Amazing tellers and audiences for both shows, I couldn’t have asked for more. Seriously folks, if you’ve never made it out to a story slam before, treat yo self. We have a pretty damn good scene.

After years of listening to the podcast and being amazed by the talent & sweep of the performers I finally made it to a live edition of The Moth story slam. I was incredibly lucky to be chosen to tell a story myself and I’m very happy to say I won the “Crime & Punishment” held at Laugh Boston. I just want to thank the incredible storytellers who performed with me and the organization behind it all. I also can’t fail to give a huge thank you to MassMouth, the fantastic local organization where I’ve learned so much about storytelling, storytellers and the superb local scene.
