Together We Rise! (…for a superb & necessary cause)
January 7, 2017 | Posted by Wes Hazard under Uncategorized |
Whatever your personal stance happens to be the fact of the matter is that very many vulnerable groups in Boston and country are going to be made more vulnerable by the incoming presidential administration.
As such a group of local activists (and me) is organizing an event at the historic Strand Theater in Dorchester on Thurs 1/19. It’s called Together We Rise: a Counter-Inaugural Celebration of Resistance. The event is a multi-genre show (music, dance, spoken word poetry, comedy), an art gallery show, and an activism drive (16 local groups will have tables set up where you can learn about what they do, grab some literature, and sign up to either join or learn more).
It’s all about coming together in a positive way to do what we can to prepare for what will be a very rough 4 years (at least) for a lot of people. There’s a GoFundMe for the event to assist with venue/promo/security costs and a donation of $10 will also get you access to the event but in truth, given its community nature, absolutely no one will be turned away if unable to pay. Hope to see you there!

The British left Boston, the snow left your sidewalk (hopefully), Leprechaun (as played by Warwick Davis) left planet Earth, and come Tuesday 3/17 @ 8:30p YOU get to leave all of troubles behind for a few hours by heading over to It Just Got Weirdo: A Wordy Evening @ Weirdo Records (5 Leaf Clover Edition!)
Yessir, this St. Patrick’s Day we’re dropping a bomb of comedy, poetry, music & storytelling on your favorite lil vinyl record shop in Cambridge. Follow the rainbow to this show featuring an all-star lineup of ridiculous talent. Trust me, there hasn’t been this much excitement on St. Patrick’s Day since Harrison Ford had to evade Tommy Lee Jones during that parade in “The Fugitive”.
This time around we have a staggeringly good lineup that I know you’ll be thrilled for featuring comedy from: Shaun Connolly, Kristin Seltman, Mickey McCauley, & Samaria Sam Johnson
Storytelling by: Stephen Mc Connon
Poet: Donald Vincent
FREE as always!
There’s no Snowpocalypse in Space

Like many times before the weather tried to keep us down last month, and like every time before we said “Pshhhh” and had an amazing show anyway. Thanks to everyone who braved freezing cold, 6ft snowdrifts and an MBTA shutdown to make it over to Weirdo Records as we celebrated Sun Ra, ancient Egypt, & intergalactic peace ‘n love.
We lost a few artists due to the basic inability to get to some parts of the city from others, but we picked up a few special guests and actually had a decent number of audience members who just found us while walking by. We do it all again on 3/17 with the St. Patrick’s Day edition of the show (more soon on that).
It’s that time again…
