So this was pretty fun to do. Part of the amazing Literary Roast organized by Weird Love Productions. In this multi-media show all sorts of Boston-area artists (poets, dancers, comics, burlesque performers, etc) were tasked with taking a literary sacred cow of their choice down a peg. I chose J.R.R. Tolkien and revealed his little-discussed achievement of being the man who “Invented Cosplay!!!”. Good times. I spent a lot of time crafting that wizard staff…it was worth it. Gandalf Lives!
P.S. Here’s an unrelated playlist that I made for Tolkien as part of my series for the blog section of The Missouri Review.

J.R.R. Tolkien: Bestselling Author & 20th century Boss of All Nerds.
Or at least that’s the story so far. On Monday May 12 check out The Literary Roast at Oberon in Cambridge, MA where I’ll be delivering my best takedown of that overly revered Hobbit author. It will be an exciting evening of comedy, poetry, burlesque, music & more as formerly untouchable literary sacred cows such as Poe, Plath, David Foster Wallace, Emily Dickinson are exposed! This is a crazy collection of Boston talent all in one place for one night only. Booze, boobs, bards & barbs…PLUS Haterade (the evening’s specially designed cocktail). DO IT!
Hope to see you there, tickets are HERE.
P.S. All items in the pic on the right above were ready to hand, within 10 ft of where I sleep. I’m on a mission to take Tolkien’s nerd title…
