I put this together for Valentine’s Day. I’m feeling pretty good this year so I decided to take a trip down memory lane and compile a playlist of some of my favorite tracks from my angst period in late high school. I was comically sad almost every day, had just discovered Napster, and was 18 months from really getting into hip-hop. No gloss, here goes, have a laugh. (Full curated playlist, with Spotify embed! is HERE)

Heyo! So remember that blog series I did for the Missouri Review wherein a curated & commented on the “perfect playlist” for picking up some of my favorite literary figures (poetry or prose, living or dead) from the airport? It was super fun to do and people really seemed to enjoy it.
Well I just found out today that the playlist I made for dearly departed sci-fi master Philip K. Dick made the 2014 top-ten list as one of the Review’s most popular posts of the year (measured by # of hits). That’s pretty damn cool to hear and my piece is definitely in some great company. Check out the full list HERE.

Poet/Activist/Icon Maya Angelou is in your car. Yeah, it’s pretty intimidating. Don’t sweat it though, I’ve made you a playlist. Just be chill, don’t say anything stupid, and crank the Alice Coltrane.
Check out the Maya Angelou playlist HERE.
I couldn’t think of a better writer with which to wrap up my recent blog series for the Missouri Review. Every other week I chose a famous writer (poetry or prose, living or dead) and curated/commented on the “perfect playlist” for picking them up from the airport. It was a total blast making mixes for some of my all-time favorites such as Margaret Atwood, W.G. Sebald, James Baldwin, & Philip K. Dick. Links to all 1o playlists can be found here.

Well thanks to Philip K. Dick’s wide & enthusiastic (and utterly well-deserved) online following this edition of my playlist for The Missouri Review was not only the most well-received in the series*, but probably the most viewed thing I’ve ever put on the web. Pretty happy about that considering how important of a writer he’s been to me over the years.

*Notwithstanding all of the flack I received in the comments section for not including any Linda Ronstadt on the list. It was a judgement call, I made it.)

Novelist, intellectual, feminist icon, Bjork fan? I certainly hope so because this playlist I curated for picking up the To The Lighthouse author from the airport includes cuts from not only Ms. Guðmundsdóttir (Iceland’s finest export), but also Prince, Massive Attack, Radiohead & Missy Elliott. Part of my ongoing blog series for The Missouri Review, hope you enjoy!
