I’m a little late in updating about it here, but the weekend before Halloween I set a goal for myself: Win 2 story slams in 2 nights. I’m very happy to say that I was able to do it, so yeah, not a bad 48 hours. I owe many thanks to Massmouth for putting on the excellent “Near Death” slam at Sanctuary on Sunday and also to The Moth for packing the house at OBERON last night as we heard tales of “Lost & Found”. Amazing tellers and audiences for both shows, I couldn’t have asked for more. Seriously folks, if you’ve never made it out to a story slam before, treat yo self. We have a pretty damn good scene.

After years of listening to the podcast and being amazed by the talent & sweep of the performers I finally made it to a live edition of The Moth story slam. I was incredibly lucky to be chosen to tell a story myself and I’m very happy to say I won the “Crime & Punishment” held at Laugh Boston. I just want to thank the incredible storytellers who performed with me and the organization behind it all. I also can’t fail to give a huge thank you to MassMouth, the fantastic local organization where I’ve learned so much about storytelling, storytellers and the superb local scene.

Had an awesome time at the Wake Up The Earth Festival in JP yesterday with Massmouth Inc. It was a day of many firsts: my first 30 min pure storytelling set, first time performing outside, first time performing with *several* babies & dogs in the audience, first time where the “stage” backdrop was an illegally parked van, etc. Drums were beating steadily in the background, I was looking at a human marionette posed across the street the whole time, and my opener was a sobbing 5 year old girl experiencing her first time on the mic. In short, it was a GREAT DAY!!!
So, in a first, I’ll be doing a 30 minute storytelling set outside during the day, at a festival. This should be very interesting. I’m definitely looking forward to it but also wondering what it will be like. Come find out with me. Here’s hoping the weather’s good. Should be a great event with lots of different performers, craftspeople, events, food, and the like!
