Heya, for this past Black History Month I completed a daily art & history project on Instagram under the title #BlackHistoryRepeatsItself Each day I took pieces from Black publications over the last century (Jet Magazine, The Crisis, Ebony, etc) & compared them to stories from 2016 – present by creating collages from historical sources and modern day news pieces. Aside from getting to indulge in my love of history, archives, & collage I wanted to explore how despite so much progress in the last century (progress that’s seriously threatened with current political developments) a lot of things haven’t changed much at all. Some of the posts were funny, others…not so much. Anyway, the IG project officially wrapped at the end of the month, but I’ve compiled all 28 posts (images & commentary) on a new site: www.BlackHistoryRepeatsItself.com
I wanted to preserve the project in an easily accessible way but I’ll also be continuing and expanding it there as well. I got really into digging through the materials and there’s a lot that I want to both revisit and explore anew. Without the character or image-size limits of Instagram I look forward to doing even more. Check it out if it’s your thing. The past is prologue.

I didn’t much to say in the days after Orlando. I just watched, and read, and listened to the same reports, interviews, think pieces, and heartbroken personal reflections that everyone else has. I didn’t have any words to contribute. Instead I just found myself making this. I’m thankful for having the process of collage to fall into. It was a relief to focus on something other than the hard fact of recent nightmare for a while. The quote is Margaret Cho.

Just…whoa. I was very happy & honored to learn that my recent Superman prose-poem/collage piece has been framed and ensconced on the wall of a very cool individual. Best of all??? It’s in the bathroom! And as we all well know, the bathroom walls get the longest lookin’ in the house. This is legit the zenith of my visual arts career.

Heyo, it has finally arrived! The tip-top final edition of my second zine is hot off the presses and coming to your favorite coffee shops/book stores/movie theaters/dumpsters/ & Improper Bostonian magazine racks all over the Boston-CamberVille area and beyond!
It certainly took a while but I’m very happy with how it came out (and if you got a version before this past Tuesday it has been updated & augmented)! This thing only exists because I dig collage and print culture, so as always it’s totally free. If you see a copy around and you’re into this sort of thing just help yourself. I’ll also have copies on me for the next few weeks so holler if you’re interested. Peace.

This is a zine I made recently. It exists for no real reason other than that I love print and I wanted to do it. A couple of area retailers (Harvard Book Store, Grolier Poetry Book Shop, Comicazi, Weirdo Records, Rodney’s, etc) have agreed to carry it. It’s totally free.
It can also be found in (or in the dumpsters next to) a bunch of Boston/Camber-ville coffee shops, newspaper stands etc. I’m hoping to come out with a new one soon, and I’m thinking this will be a regularly-irregular sort of thing. Anyway, if you see it and think you may be interested, go ahead and grab one. Hope you enjoy.
