Grandma’s: The Basement Mixtape Vol. 3

So back in April, after almost a decade in comedy, I finally buckled down and put together a regular show of my own. It’s been a fantastic experience and I’m super happy to have had the opportunity. As I’m involved in both the comedy and poetry scenes in Boston and I’ve had the good fortune to watch and perform with some of the city’s finest homegrown talent over the last few years, and I really wanted to organize something where performers of all kinds could come out and be awesome in their own unique way.
Thus “The Basement Mixtape”, a multi-genre extravaganza, was born. The idea, loosely, has been to organize a monthly event in a comedy space that would be half stand-up and half “whatever else”…and by that I mean ANYTHING, as long as it’s interesting. So far non-comedy acts have included poets, a memoirist, an MC, a sketch troupe, and a pirate (yes!). In the future I’m gunning for storytellers, magicians, burlesque, dance and whatever else kicks ass in this city. (If anyone has a good ventriloquist connection, let me know ASAP on the real.)
After two shows I really couldn’t be happier. The performers have all brought their A-game, the audiences have been incredible, and more than anything I think we’ve really been able to establish a vibe where artists can come in and, no matter what their background, do their thing knowing that it’s going to be received on its own terms.
Thanks to Grandma’s Basement for having us and being such an awesome venue. Thanks to out audiences for being so ridiculously accepting and supportive, and thanks to the performers for coming out, taking a risk, and kicking ass. Two shows down, hopefully many more to go. I hope to see you at Vol.3 (Sunday 6/16, 8:30pm, Grandma’s Basement @ The HoJo’s Tiki Hideaway in the Fenway)
