So Monday’s show @ Weirdo Records in Central Sq. was crazy fun and a definite success. We had a knockout audience, a brilliant lineup, and we were able to gift everyone with either bargain rack vinyl or a deaccessioned library copy of a Godzilla movie on VHS (it was a toss-up between Chaka Khan’s debut LP or The Terror of Mechagodzilla for my favorite prize of the night). It was a total joy to bring stand-up, poetry & storytelling together under one roof in such an awesome venue.
And we ain’t done yet!!! No way.
The 1st time around was such a blast that we’ve gone ahead and kicked this show into monthly mode. Join us again on MONDAY 9/16 8:30pm for another Weirdo evening with another fantastic evening with some of Boston’s best talent.

What happens when you get together some of Boston’s best young comedy talent, a superb joke-slinging storyteller, & the local representative to 2013’s upcoming Individual World Poetry Slam and throw them all into a crazy underground record store that’s the size of a small kitchen? Hell if I know!!!
I guarantee you’ll love the show, but even if not you’ll have the chance to buy the special edition DVD of “Captain Beefheart: The Lost Tapes” or the new release of “Andy Kaufman and His Grandmother” on vinyl. Be there!

People of Somerville (Union Sq. specifically) rejoice! There’s a brand new Tuesday comedy series in your backyard and it’s bringing some serious funny. Radio Comedy Presents… is bringing you some of the newest and hippest local talent to the hottest venue in Union, Radio Bar. Curated by Improv Boston’s Kevin Quigley this showcase brings together stand-ups, improvisers, storytellers and anyone else capable of putting a deep laugh into your belly together on one amazing weekly show.
I for one can’t wait. This is a series that seeks to take risks, try new stuff, incorporate all kinds of performers and, most importantly, allow really talented people to just get out there and do their thing. Did I mention that the bar is renowned for their devotion to and experimentation with craft cocktails and that it only cost five buck to get in? If you weren’t excited before you really have no excuse now…
The first show went down this past Tuesday and was a huge success. This coming Tuesday (8/20) they’ll be presenting Bleed Out, an evening of funny storytelling. Guess who’s closing out the show? That’s right, yours truly. I’ll be talking about some bad dates, some Hasbro related childhood terrors, and perhaps most importantly of all: the most awkward medical encounter I’ve had in my entire life. That’s right, if you saw me on stage back in April/May you’ll especially want to come out this Tuesday in order to hear part II of “The Urology Saga”, now with visuals!!!
Be there, you won’t be sorry.
Here’s the FB event with even more details and the full roster of performers.

I just wanted to offer a huge thanks to everyone who came out last night to Cambridge’s Cantab Lounge and made our NPS 2013 Late Night event: Stand-up Comedians Vs. Funny Slam Poets a huge success. The audience was engaged and full of energy, my co-host (Chicago poet Amy David) was superb (and a fantastic manager of the judging aspect of the show), and the poets selected from the open draw all delivered.
On a personal level I’d especially like to thank the four comics who came through and really represented our scene and our art in this competition which, while friendly, was definitely an “away game” for stand-ups. I hand-picked them all for a reason and they proved me right by being utterly hilarious. Shout-outs to Christine An, Steve Macone, Alingon Mitra, & Nick Chambers all of whom are chill, hard-working, 100% original, and FUNNY!
And though, ultimately, the spirit of the event was about camaraderie and artistic fellowship (at the end of the day both comics and slam poets are artists who are passionate about the word and the mic) let’s not forget who won this thing. Congrats to my comics who took it to the house with a blistering 3-1 victory! Hell yeah.
Thanks to the National Poetry Slam for having us, the event runs through Saturday night, be sure to check out some additional events if you can!
